SLOW ELEVATOR COMIN’

Sometimes

I feel so low on this first floor

Can't help but wonder what's happenin' to this elevator,

Who could build a machine so slow, the total cost must have been real low

We could die down here waiting for some transportation

There's a slow, elevator comin' to the first floor

I had a class upstairs after chapel,

Knee was hurtin' so I didn't want to take the staircase

Pressed the button, it lit up red, I heard nothing over my head

Maybe I'm stuck down here, students gonna leave because I'm too late

And there's a slow, slow elevator comin' to the first floor

Alumni giving money to build, trust funds that people have willed

Someone cut the cost thought they'd please an administrator

State of the art classrooms here, computers in each with a projector

But I look around and wish there was an escalator

And there's a slow, slow elevator comin' to the first floor

Doors finally open, stepped in I was hoping

That I'd make it to class before the students went a-runnin'

Doors finally shuttin' after pressin' the button

But I feel no motion, seems like it's doing nuttin'

And there's a slow, slow elevator comin' to the first floor

Had time to read Tobit, War and peace, and the Hobbit

Rebuilt my bike, ate my lunch and wanted dinner

Thinkin' I'm on the third floor I bolt through the open door

Look around and see the panel with the number "two" there

And there's a slow, slow elevator comin' to the first floor
