HURRICANE KATRINA, SIX MONTHS LATER

These photos of destruction in New Orleans were taken on March 5, 2006, and March 7, 2006, 6 months after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast.  We were told that the news media could not adequately convey the scale of the devastation, and after being there, this is correct. We took over 500 photos in one day, and the greater part of those are here (over 400).  We basically traveled from the S part of the city NW, then E, then down to the Lower Ninth Ward, then through the French Quarter and back.

Many of the photos show waterlines on the houses and trees, 4-8 feet up. Some of the devastation is more obvious than other parts. The Lower 9th Ward shows the most intense, obvious devastation.

Posted are two sizes of images: 320x200 (thumbnails) and 800x600. This is for economy of space and easier downloading. The originals are from 4 megapixel cameras--about half were taken by me, and the rest were taken by my wife, Terry (+ a few by my son, Daniel, who lives and works in New Orleans). If you wish to have a copy of the original size, send me an email with the specific photo name, to griffinw@evangel.edu.

Feel free to use these pictures as you see fit. At a later time we are likely to have more specific names attached.

William P. Griffin, Ph.D., and Terry Griffin.
