6. THE DIVINE NAME AND THE SCROLLS
Please recall our earlier discussion about Paleohebrew, Aramaic Script (Hebrew), and Greek. It appears that some scribes thought that Paleohebrew was a more holy script.
There are a number of texts where the Divine Name (YHWH or Yahweh) was written in Paleohebrew, while the rest of the Hebrew was in the Aramaic square script.
What is quite surprising is that this feature is not limited to Hebrew. There are Greek texts where, instead of translating Yahweh as "LORD" (Greek "kurios"), the Lord's name is written in Paleohebrew, right in the middle of the Greek!
It must be stressed, though, that most often the Divine Name is written in the same script as the rest of the document.
